Saímos bem cedo pela manhã em direção ao Aeroporto de Suvarnabhumi. No dia anterior tínhamos refeito toda a nossa bagagem, de modo a levar apenas o estritamente necessário para os 10 dias que passaríamos fora de Bangkok. Suvarnabhumi, assim como Changi, em Cingapura, é um aeroporto que oferece um serviço de depósito – pode-se deixar a bagagem armazenada pagando uma quantia diária que varia de acordo com o peso da mala. No nosso caso, pagamos 1200 bahts por uma mala grande, que devia pesar uns 30 Kg.
Seguimos então para o check-in da Bangkok Airways. Não tinha sido possível encaixar os vôos domésticos da Tailândia nas regras do bilhete RTW – assim, fizemos nossos deslocamentos internos em companhias locais, como a própria Bangkok Airways e a Air Asia. Foi uma grata surpresa – morro de saudades da Bangkok Airways, com seus lindos aviões decorados, serviço atenciosíssimo e precinhos imbatíveis…

Chiang Mai está situada nas montanhas ao norte da Tailândia, a 700 km de Bangkok, ou pouco mais de 1 hora de vôo. É a segunda maior cidade tailandesa, mas nem por isso é uma cidade grande… Com cerca de 200 mil habitantes, aquele burburinho tão típico de Bangkok passa longe dali – pelo contrário, o ritmo da cidade é calmo, e a atmosfera bem tranqüila. Sendo a capital da província de Chiang Mai, a cidade atrai muitos jovens, que chegam para cursar uma das várias universidades e/ou para buscar melhores oportunidades de emprego.

Aterrisamos por volta das 09:15 h da manhã e, como de hábito, já tínhamos contratado com antecedência o transfer do próprio hotel. Dessa vez eu tinha criado uma certa expectativa, já que o Hotel Ping Nakara, escolhido a dedo para a celebração de 1 mês da VAM, usa uma Mercedes vintage do ano em que eu nasci… 😉 Mas que decepção – a Mercedes “velhinha” deu defeito e teve que ser substituída por um carro comum…

Nossos planos para os dois dias de estada em Chiang Mai eram modestos: queríamos conhecer alguns dos templos mais importantes (a tarefa mais árdua seria eleger quais, em uma cidade com uma oferta tão ampla!), experimentar uma típica massagem tailandesa, explorar o mercado noturno e, talvez, visitar a comunidade Karen (das conhecidas mulheres-girafa).

Enquanto fazíamos o nosso check-in, confortavelmente instalados no sofá da biblioteca, saboreando um delicioso chazinho de boas-vindas, o rapaz que tinha ido nos buscar no aeroporto nos informou sobre os passeios oferecidos pelo próprio hotel, em que ele próprio seria o guia. (Infelizmente não anotei o nome dele, que mancada…) Como tínhamos simpatizado com ele, um rapaz inteligente e bem articulado em inglês, e ainda teríamos que esperar um pouco até que o nosso quarto estivesse arrumado, nem pensamos duas vezes antes de contratar a visita ao Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, com partida quase imediata.

O Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep fica no topo da montanha Doi Suthep, a uns 15 km do centro de Chiang Mai. Dá pra chegar até um determinado ponto de carro, mas dali até o templo propriamente dito é preciso subir uma escadaria ou tomar um elevador, tipo um funicular, que custa bem baratinho, apenas uns 30 bahts (e é gratuito para os tailandeses).

Nós temos plena consciência de que, ao longo da VAM, gastamos muito mais do que seria necessário em uma viagem pela Ásia ao decidir contratar esses tours particulares. Mas certos detalhes às vezes nos mostram que há situações que realmente não têm preço… Enquanto descíamos as escadarias do Doi Suthep, o nosso super guia nos fez praticar à exaustão os nossos sawasdee ka (bom dia, boa tarde e boa noite, usado por mulheres) e sawasdee krup (idem, usado por homens), assim como os nossos kop kun ka e kop kun krup (obrigada e obrigado, respectivamente) até chegar bem próximo da perfeição, o que foi muito útil ao longo do resto dos dias que passamos na Tailândia… 😉

The actress made the surprising comment during the latest episode of
Stellar’s Something to Talk About podcast.
‘It has been the longest engagement ever,’ she joked before going on to discuss why she hasn’t
walked down the aisle yet.
‘Look, it was always something […] that we were in no rush to do.

Megan and former AFL champion Shaun had welcomed their two children – a son River, 10, and daughter

‘[We] thought, the kids are here. Let’s wait til they’re old enough to be
involved [in a wedding] and remember it,’ she added.
However, Megan didn’t rule out having a wedding altogether as she admitted it would
be ‘nice’ to exchange vows with Shaun ‘one day’.
The couple first started dating in 2010 and Megan has
previously revealed the secret to their happy and healthy relationship.
‘I think communication is key for any relationship and we do
that so well,’ Megan told Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show back in 2019.

But it hasn’t always been smooth-sailing for the couple as they
initially struggled with the public perception of their relationship
when they first started dating.
Megan previously revealed how she was labelled a ‘cougar’ because of her 12-year age gap with
Shaun, something they both found difficult.
‘It was being turned into something scandalous,’ she
confessed.
‘I was being called a cougar, he was being called a toyboy.’
Shaun told how the attention as ‘horrible’ adding:
‘You don’t plan this stuff. I hadn’t planned on falling
for her the way I did. I just wanted to be with her all the time.’
Perth-born star Megan first rose to fame in 1999
after starring in advertisements for an Italian telecommunication company.
She then went on to become ‘the face of Australia in Italy’ for the Australian Tourist
Commission in 2003.
